We choose Lyocell not only for its luxuriously soft feel and breathability, but also for its environmental credentials.
Sourced from sustainably managed forests and made from wood pulp, Lyocell is fully biodegradable, returning to the earth at the end of its life. It’s one of the ways we ensure our fabrics feel good in every sense: for you, and for the world around you.
In the early wears, you might notice a small amount of shedding. This is a natural part of the fleece settling into its final texture. A cool, gentle wash will help the fibres relax and smooth out over time.
To help your fleece look and feel its best:
- Wash inside out on a gentle, cool cycle with similar colours.
- Avoid fabric softeners and harsh detergents.
- Reshape gently and dry flat, away from direct heat.
- Wash only when necessary to preserve softness and reduce environmental impact.
With the right handling, your fleece will soften beautifully and develop an ease that only becomes more comfortable with time.
At Emello, we believe in creating knitwear that is timeless, luxurious, and made to be cherished for years. The following steps ensure your knitwear remains beautifully soft, resilient, and elegant season after season.
Fabric Care :
- Follow the Label: Always follow the care label on each garment. Most Emello knitwear is Dry Clean Only to preserve the softness and shape of the fibres.
- Re-Wear Often: You don’t need to dry clean after every wear. Cashmere benefits from resting and airing between uses, so only clean when necessary.
- Layer Thoughtfully: Extend the life of your knitwear by wearing a light, breathable layer underneath. This acts as a discreet barrier, reducing direct contact with natural skin oils.
- Natural Pilling: Pilling is a normal characteristic of cashmere and a hallmark of authentic, natural fibres.
- Emello Cashmere Comb: Restore a smooth finish by gently gliding our knitwear comb over the fabric. Always work in one direction and avoid excessive pressure.
- Steaming: To remove light creases or refresh your knitwear, use a hand-held steamer on a low setting. Hold the steamer a short distance away to prevent saturation. Steaming also lifts fibres, keeping them soft and airy.
- Avoid Hanging: Always fold your cashmere. Hanging can cause the garment to lose its shape and stretch.
Stains and Emergency Care:
- Professional First: For significant stains, always take your knitwear to a trusted dry cleaner as soon as possible. Specialist solvents and techniques can often lift marks without damaging the fibres.
- At-Home Emergencies: If professional care isn’t immediately possible, gently blot (never rub) the stain with a clean, damp, lint-free cloth using cold water only.
- Avoid Harsh Products: Do not use detergents, stain removers, or bleach on cashmere, as these can permanently weaken the fibres.
- If a Thread Pulls: Do not cut the loose yarn. Instead, gently ease the surrounding fabric back into place with a blunt needle or crochet hook, pulling the thread through to the inside.
- Professional Repair: For larger snags, holes, we recommend a professional knitwear repair or reweaving service, often available through premium dry cleaners or restoration ateliers.
- Proactive Care: Addressing snags early prevents them from developing into bigger issues, extending the life of your knitwear.
Storage & Longevity:
- Protect with Care: When not in use, fold your knitwear and store it in an Emello cashmere storage bag. These breathable bags deter moths, shield from dust, and are ideal for both home storage and travel. (link to shop the storage bags)
- Cool, Dry Place: Avoid direct sunlight, damp environments, or sealed plastic bags, which can trap moisture.
- Travel Smart: Roll your knitwear gently in its storage bag when packing to prevent creases and protect it in transit.
